Adventure Camp – Oakland offers a one-week multi-sport adventure camp where campers take part in mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, paddling, and biking. Every day features a different activity, with a sample week including hiking on Monday, kayaking on Tuesday, biking on Wednesday, rock climbing on Thursday, and stand up paddleboarding on Friday.

Instructors at Adventure Camp – Oakland are all 18 and older, are described as incredibly well-trained and professional, and are hired as committed, experienced outdoor educators with serious safety and skills training. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that its mission is to give kids a love of outdoor activity, set them on a trajectory of lifelong outdoor adventure and stewardship, and build kids’ skills, confidence, grit, and determination through the transformative power of the outdoors.
Campers are grouped by grade, with 2nd–4th graders focusing on getting comfortable with new activities and 5th–7th graders focusing on teamwork and deepening technical competence. Avid4 Adventure provides transportation for campers to and from local recreation areas for each adventure sport and supplies top-of-the-line, professional-caliber gear specifically sized for kids. Campers can bring their own bikes or borrow from the camp’s fleet, which accommodates campers of any size, and instruction includes basic bicycle maintenance. Campers also learn about local flora and fauna, Leave No Trace principles, and take part in teambuilding activities.
Stand up paddleboarding days include games and challenges to work on balance, along with instruction in proper strokes and rescue techniques. Flat-water kayaking instruction covers paddling equipment, safety, and building comfort with basic skills before moving into deeper skill building. Every activity begins with a discussion of risks, prevention, and response. Programs within Avid4 Adventure evolve with campers from age 3 to 17, from Pre-K through their first summer job.
