About
Shoong Family Chinese Cultural Center Programs offer Mandarin and Cantonese classes, Chinese language learning in reading, writing, and conversation, and a Zoom-based Mandarin program with conversational practice and group activities. Students can join dance class, singing, arts and crafts, Chinese calligraphy using brush and ink, storytelling, hands-on STEM innovation labs, STEM learning with Legos and math, and work with classmates on projects as a team. The programs also include community sports programs such as the East Bay Cardinals basketball program, other wellness and sports activities, play sports time, watching online videos, and field trips and trips to the Oakland Museum of California for art, history, and science, all held in tech-equipped classrooms and an auditorium used for events like the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony.

• Schedule: Weekday after-school, weekend Saturday morning, summer day camp with half-day or full-day options, aftercare on Yu Ming school days, and a weekday remote learning class, with semesters and summer sessions running between January and December 2026 and a 7-week summer camp

Shoong Family Chinese Cultural Center was established in 1953 and has been educating students for over seven decades, including a 71st Anniversary Celebration, and now serves over 500 youth weekly with more than 700 students enrolled annually across 10 grade levels. The mission is to nurture Bay Area youth and preserve Asian heritage through quality Chinese language education and community sports programs, and the Center accepts students of all ethnicities and backgrounds without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, country of birth, or sexual orientation. The East Bay Cardinals basketball program has been serving the community since 1985 and welcomes youth from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, and the Center has also held a Cultural Celebration at The Lively StreetFest and partners with Zabal Media.
The organization has over 20 educators on staff, including Executive Director Jones Wu, Head Teacher Susan Zhong, Office Manager Jane Zhang, Program Development Director Anna Sophie Loewenberg, and a teaching staff that includes Han Zhen Chen, Ying Chen, Christina Ho, Yongfeng Hu, Cui Feng Huang, Jie Huang, Shan Huang, Dong Xian Li, Mei Juan Li, Pik Shan Lui, Hui Min Luo, Hui Hong Ning, Yan Ru Tang, Hui Wang, Guangmei Wen, Xiu Zhen Wu, Dan Xie, Yoyo Yang, and Lin Zhao. The Board of Directors includes President Jones Wu, Vice-President Sugi Loni, Treasurer Alex Wong, Secretary Dr. Jennifer Wu, and board members Helen Chou, Richard Cooc, Park Man Joe, Rosina Ko, Francis Lan, Steven Lee, Joseph Ma, Kenny Song, and Jason Wu. Admissions require bringing the student to determine class level, providing a copy of a birth certificate or passport to verify age, and paying registration and tuition fees by check made payable to “SFCCC.”
