Shoong Family Chinese Cultural Center Programs were established in 1953 and have over seven decades of teaching, with more than 70 years as one of the pioneering Chinese language schools in the United States. The mission is to nurture Bay Area youth and preserve Asian heritage through quality Chinese language education and community sports programs, using tech-equipped classrooms and a peer-learning approach.
The leadership team includes President and Executive Director Jones Wu, Vice-President Sugi Loni, Treasurer Alex Wong, Secretary Dr. Jennifer Wu, and other board members Helen Chou, Richard Cooc, Park Man Joe, Rosina Ko, Francis Lan, Steven Lee, Joseph Ma, Kenny Song, and Jason Wu. The East Bay Cardinals basketball program, part of the community sports programs, has been serving the community since 1985 and welcomes youth from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, alongside other regular sports and wellness programs. The organization partners with Zabal Media, and the Center’s auditorium is used for the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony. Admissions procedures require bringing the student to the Center to determine class level, bringing a copy of the birth certificate or passport to verify the child’s age, and providing registration and tuition fees by checks made payable to “SFCCC.”
Parent and student testimonials describe the school as providing many different ways for children to understand Chinese culture, with teachers who try their best to help students and support improving Chinese, including one student who reports receiving 10 years of knowledge from the school.
