First Tee – Oakland is a youth development program that uses golf as its main activity. The program offers golf-based lessons that combine the game with a life skills curriculum.

First Tee – Oakland states that it enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. The program describes its approach as seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum to create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. It focuses on teaching young people positive values such as honesty, integrity, confidence, and respect while using the game of golf as a tool. The organization describes its work as building “Game Changers” by empowering kids and teens through golf and notes that its programs are having a positive impact on participants, their families, and their communities. Lessons will also be taught through in-school programs next year.
