Youth Summer Camps

Youth Summer Camps at Clay Creations focus on hands-on clay work, including learning to throw on the potter's wheel, building projects with coils, and building projects with slabs. Participants also create sculptures of their choice. On the last day of camp, woodfired pizza is made on site with fresh homemade sourdough.

Clay Creations has been offering youth classes and summer camp for over 25 years. The studio states that it believes it is more important than ever for youth to have a creative outlet. The program notes a very small student-teacher ratio and states that many children return year after year, with additional project ideas provided for students attending more than one week to encourage growth and exploration of clay. The studio offers over 30 mid-fire dipping glazes with many test tiles of various combinations, as well as cone 10 glazes and flashing slips for atmospheric firings hosted at Oribe Firing Center in San Gregorio, where events and workshops are centered around woodfire, soda, raku, and pitfire. ClayMobile is taken on the road to provide a ceramics experience in a different setting.

Students are asked to bring a snack, water, and layers of clothing in case the studio is chilly, and food is provided on Friday. Parents are asked to inform the studio if their child is gluten free or has any other dietary restrictions.
