About
Youth of Promise is a program of Flintridge Center that focuses on investing deeply in at-promise youth through enrichment, mentoring, and academic support. The program is part of a broader effort that also includes training formerly incarcerated individuals for careers in union construction and breaking down barriers for community members following incarceration.
Flintridge Center’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty and violence through community planning, innovation and action. The organization’s focus on Pasadena and Altadena stems from long standing disparities, and its youth programs remain focused on these communities while almost 50% of adults served come from other communities in Los Angeles County. Bringing diverse stakeholders together, Flintridge Center has initiated and supported programs as collaborative endeavors, based on the belief that partnerships are the most effective way to improve education, neighborhood safety and workforce readiness.
Youth of Promise is coordinated by Dana Wood, Youth of Promise Program Coordinator. Dana Wood graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and continued her education in Applied Behavioral Analysis to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). Flintridge Foundation operated between 1986 and 2007, and after concluding its grant making programs in 2007, its remaining assets were used to form Flintridge Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
