About

Applause Children’s Theater offers themed theater sessions that include Disney Celebration (June 22–26), The Candy Man (July 6–10), and a Music Revue of the 50’s and 60’s for ages 9 and older (July 13–17). The program also runs Let’s Act! sessions for ages 5–9 from 9am–12pm and for ages 10 and older from 1–4pm (July 20–24), along with fall and spring productions that involve children in full-length Broadway musicals such as Wizard of Oz, Annie, and Peter Pan. Children in Applause Children’s Theater may also take part in areas like set design, costume ideas, and choreography, and many shows are double cast to give as many children as possible the chance to experience leading roles.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Summer sessions on specific dates in June and July, with half-day options and additional fall and spring productions

Applause Children’s Theater was founded by Vikky Mullin. The program’s mission states that it seeks to bring an opportunity to perform in Broadway musicals to youth in the community, and that every child who auditions is cast in the show. The organization describes itself with phrases such as “WHERE EVERYONE IS A STAR,” “EDUCATION THROUGH THE ARTS,” and “THE MAGIC OF THEATER,” and notes that all who audition are cast and are on stage as much as possible. It also states that it is committed to bringing a full-scale performing arts program to children of the central coast and that children experience a professional theater in a fun-loving environment.

Parent testimonials report that one child “has gained confidence, and discovered a love for acting and singing and making wonderful friends,” another “has found his happy place, he feels important and has overcome his shyness, ACT makes him feel like a part of something big,” and another is “learning the techniques of acting and how she can be goofy and serious when need be” and that “being involved in ACT is all she wants to do now.”
