About

The Kumon Math and Reading Program uses math worksheets, reading worksheets, and daily worksheet practice with instructor guidance. Students work on activities such as counting, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, graphs, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, probability and statistics, pre-reading skills, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation, sentence building, and reading comprehension skills. The program also includes pencil holding exercises, writing numbers, mental calculations, “look, listen and repeat” worksheets, identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives, using nouns, verbs and adjectives within sentences, solving math problems, and completing worksheets using a tablet and stylus through Kumon Connect.

The Kumon Math Program covers counting, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, graphs, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and probability and statistics. The Kumon Reading Program covers pre-reading skills, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation, sentence building, reading comprehension skills and more. Kumon offers individualized instruction, and instruction is carefully planned by an instructor and practiced daily at home or in the center, with children progressing at their own pace, advancing step by logical step in just 30 minutes per day, per subject. Kumon offers small-step worksheets that facilitate self-learning, and Kumon Worksheets used around the world are all based on the same approach.

The program is available in a digital format via Kumon Connect, where students complete worksheets using a tablet and stylus, and parents can view their child's progress history anytime. Kumon Connect provides daily grading and real-time progress tracking, eliminates paper clutter, and comes with no additional fees. Virtual classes are available in many locations, though not all centers. Most Kumon Centers are independently owned and operated.

According to the program’s stated information, Kumon Students improve study skills, reduce homework anxiety and master math and reading concepts, and students often study two or even three years above grade level. The Kumon Method starts by filling in learning gaps and empowers students to learn independently, with students conquering one skill before moving on to the next and achieving mastery one step at a time.
