About

La Casita Bilingüe Montessori School offers a traditional Montessori curriculum that includes daily lessons in math concepts, language development, science, culture, music, art, and more. Children work with bilingual materials, games, cooking, geography, history, music, art, and projects, and each child works at their own pace toward letter recognition, writing, and reading in both English and Spanish as they become ready. The program uses special Montessori materials and exercises that support motor skills, sequential learning, independence, positive self-esteem, and emphasizes multicultural experiences and diversity through art, geography, history, music, and cooking.

La Casita Bilingüe Montessori School offers high quality, bilingual Montessori-guided preschool and Transitional-Kindergarten programs in a small, dedicated school community. The school uses a natural approach to Spanish as a second language, giving children daily exposure to Spanish as an integral part of activities, with bilingual materials, games, and projects used during the sensitive period of language acquisition, and both vocabulary and self-expression are stressed. Materials are designed to enhance the child’s ability to think creatively and deepen curiosity about the world, with a special emphasis on multicultural experiences and diversity.

La Casita Bilingüe Montessori School is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, a licensed childcare center, accredited by the American Montessori Society, and is part of the national Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) as a Quality Matters site. The program has been serving the East Bay since 1985. The staff is a group of dedicated teachers who all have training in Early Childhood Education, and each classroom has two Montessori Certified Teachers. Gloria Castillo is the Director, and long-time Director and Founder Zamahara Berkov-Rojas retired in Summer 2021.
