About
Soil Born Farms Summer Day Camp includes activities where campers meet the chickens, dig in the dirt, smell herbs, and taste fresh fruits and vegetables. Campers listen to stories, sing songs, make crafts, play games, learn how to grow food and flowers, harvest and cook with the culinary team, explore new spaces, hike and explore Cordova Creek and the American River Parkway, and prepare their own Farmers Market Party for families and friends.
• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: Little Sprouts camp runs June 16–19 from 9–11:30am; Gardeners sessions for ages 6–8 run June 23–26, July 14–17, or July 21–24; Jr. Farmers sessions for ages 9–12 run July 7–10 or July 28–31
Soil Born Farms Summer Day Camp takes place at a 55-acre ranch and is part of a youth education program that focuses on experiential, hands-on learning in the natural world and in the kitchen. The leadership team includes Gina Marraccini, Kara Chin, and Nolan Kirby. The camp is connected to a Summer Day Camp Scholarship Fund that provides scholarships. The organization’s mission is to create an urban agriculture and education project that empowers youth and adults to discover and participate in a local food system that encourages healthy living, nurtures the environment and grows a sustainable community. Harvest Sacramento, connected with the program, is a collaborative effort of area residents, non-profits, community groups and businesses that harvest underutilized fruit and vegetables from backyards and small orchards and donate it to local food assistance agencies.
