About

Dance 1 offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and fitness. The program includes a syllabus-based preschool program called Baby Movement as an introductory program to Dance 1, as well as syllabus-based youth classes and an Adult Ensemble Company. Uniforms are required for youth classes.

Dance 1 first opened in 2013, and Redondo Ballet was founded in 2014. Dance 1 is the Home of Redondo Ballet, a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that produces two original ballets each year for South Bay audiences. Dance 1 has 5 studios, including the Red Studio and Purple Studio, and also includes Dance 2-Tu, a dance boutique, and a Dance 1 app available on Apple and Android.

Owner and Artistic Director Francesca Stern has over 30 years of teaching experience in England and America and earned her Fellowship with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). The leadership team includes Francesca Stern, FISTD - Owner & Artistic Director; Dr. Randolph Stern - Co-founder; Donna Perkins - Jazz Dept. Director & Performing Company Director; Sondi Foley - Fitness Program Director; Erin Fleming - Preschool & Camp Director; Corey Hastings - Tap Director; Jordan Montpas - Mighty Mini & Boys Company Director; Corinna Ductor - Mini Company Director & Adult Ensemble Co-Director; Kaylyn Fulton - Adult Ensemble Co-Director, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary; Beth Blumin - Tap, Jazz & Conditioning; Bernadette Glenn - Ballet; April Aguas - Toddler/Preschool; Maia Southers - Jazz & Conditioning; Carina Brunstein - Preschool, Ballet; Sofia Jansen - Preschool, Ballet, Jazz; Audrey George - Preschool, Ballet, Jazz; Sabrina Tamura - Ballet & Conditioning; Kingsley Aguillen - Ballet; and Evelyn Tang - Preschool. Dance 1 dancers have earned 4 Studio of Excellence Awards and multiple 1st place overall awards across all genres.

Francesca Stern states, “I made the promise that when I opened a studio it would always be a positive place of learning. Dancers learn and perform better when they are treated well and feel secure. We support each other and this support comes full circle making stronger dancers!”
