EnCorps offers the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program for experienced STEM professionals who want to explore becoming high school STEM teachers. The program includes credentialing support, professional development, and volunteer guest teaching. EnCorps also offers the EnCorps STEMx Tutors Program, a volunteer online tutoring program for middle school students, and the EnCorps Career Technical Education (CTE) Mentorship Alliance for aspiring CTE teachers.

At a glance

  • Ages: 0–18 years old
  • General schedule: New admits enter the program during Fall or Spring cohorts. Fall start: if joining between July and December, mandatory guest teacher training occurs in early January and volunteer guest teaching takes place for 10 consecutive weeks in January or early February of the following year. Spring start: if becoming a Fellow between January and June, mandatory guest teacher training is in August and volunteer guest teaching takes place for 10 consecutive weeks in September of that year. Online sessions are offered from August through April, and the Annual Learning Summit is in May.

About the provider

EnCorps was founded in Los Angeles in 2007. The program advocates for equitable STEM education and collaborates with over 250 high-needs schools and organizations. Fellows volunteer guest teach in partner schools in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Los Angeles Area / North Orange County, Greater San Diego Area, Greater Riverside Area, and Greater Sacramento Area.

The EnCorps STEM Teachers Fellowship is an unpaid professional learning and volunteer opportunity. The EnCorps STEM Teachers Program is free of charge. Fellows are responsible for fingerprinting fees, tuberculosis testing fee, test registration fees, transcript fees, and credentialing/licensure/certification tuition, materials, and textbooks. EnCorps offers scholarships on an application basis and a $150 travel stipend after guest teaching is completed. A $100 stipend toward fingerprinting fees is available upon submission of proof of payment.
