About
Rocklin's Tutoring Team offers homework help in core subjects, SAT and ACT prep, and college readiness programs in math and writing. The program includes the Barton Reading Program with systematic tutoring in phonemic awareness and phonics, reading and writing programs, and help with essays for students in 3rd grade and up through college, including college application essays. Reading and writing programs are also available in the summertime and during holiday breaks, and students work face to face with a tutor at a 3:1 ratio or less with no busy work or required homework.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Options Monday–Friday during daytime and evening hours, with flexible remote learning days and all sessions by appointment only
Since 2008, Rocklin's Tutoring Team has been led by owner Sherrie Thompson, who has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Sacramento State University and an ESL teaching credential from the Washington Academy of Languages. The leadership team includes Sherrie Thompson and long-time Barton-trained professional Heather Miles, whose early afternoon availability works well for homeschoolers. Tutors are trained in the local Common Core curriculum, use diagnostics to narrow down specific issues in math and language arts, and keep local school books on hand so tutoring is directly relevant to local classrooms. The program serves all local school districts, offers tailored programs for grades 3rd through high school, and also works with Sierra College students, including support by Zoom or Google Doc sharing for students who are far away or have gone off to college. The stated mission emphasizes individualized tutoring, language arts, math, science, SAT and ACT support with one purpose in mind, and a focus on helping students express their thoughts and understand the rhetoric in literature.
