• Schedule: School day 8:30 am–1:00 pm with afterschool enrichment and aftercare available until 3:00 pm; school year runs September–June and Summer Camps run July–August
The Ross Preschool Summer Camp is part of a progressive non-profit preschool and pre-K program with a play-based, child-directed, and nature-oriented curriculum that emphasizes 21st Century Skills and a child-directed, teacher-guided, family-supported approach. The program states a mission “to help every child discover who they are - and develop the character, confidence, and curiosity to shape who they become,” and describes its environment as warm and nurturing, where every child feels seen, known, and deeply loved. The community is described as small and intimate, with close-knit parent families, long-tenured teachers, and TRP families whose friendships often last beyond graduation.
Head of School David Allen-Hughes has worked with preschool and elementary-aged children and families for over 20 years, holds a bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State University, a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and a Master of Education from Dominican University, and multiple California Child Development Permits including Master Teacher, Site Supervisor, and Preschool Program Director; he is a former elementary school teacher and principal and the founder and former owner of Camp Doodles and Marin Ranch Camp. Site Director Teacher Sydney holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.A. in Education from Northern Arizona University, has taught K–2 students in Arizona, led a math program, mentored student teachers, and has worked with preschoolers through Amazing Athletes in Marin since 2017. The teaching team includes Teacher Denise, Teacher Chessie, Teacher Emily, Teacher Tyler, Teacher Alex, Teacher Andrea, Teacher Tiffany, and Teacher Emma.
The Ross Preschool describes itself as a non-profit built for the community and founded on the belief that exceptional early childhood education should serve the community, and notes that families come from across central Marin and “truly support each other.” Parent testimonials describe the preschool as “truly one-of-a-kind,” highlight the teaching staff and emphasis on social-emotional development, and describe it as a “happy place” where children feel loved and at home. Another parent notes spending three years at The Ross Preschool with twins who “loved every minute” and describes the parenting community as a genuine strength.
