Art Beast Children’s Studio offers full and part time care to toddlers and preschoolers in a community of children, parents, and teachers engaged in play based learning that values child choice, social justice, culturally competent curriculum, and the natural world. The program states that learning happens in community through the interaction of teachers, empowered and curious children, their families, and an evolving understanding of how the brain learns best. The curriculum is described as inclusive and flexible so that each child can emerge in their own learning and grow socially as a strong, able bodied, intentional human being.

The program encourages individual expression through art, movement, gardening, digging in the earth, music, dance, song, poetry, and imaginative play, and describes this as promoting joyful learning, social emotional development, and relationship building. It states that play is children’s work and that foundations for literacy, attention, social interaction, self-regulation, mathematical and scientific reasoning, and motor development are developed in child directed explorations of the world. Teachers study each child and bring in activities that the program describes as best developing these skills.

Art Beast Children’s Studio states that it supports children as they grow to be brave, compassionate, and action oriented, and to think critically and creatively about the world around them. The program brings intention to providing learning experiences, role models, and literature that portray all gender identities equally as protagonists and as people who can be brave, adventurous, heroic, gentle, loving, mischievous, and spirited. The program also states that it celebrates the cultural diversity of its learning community and the city, encourages children to share their home cultures and traditions, and works to ensure its curriculum, literature, and teachers reflect the vibrancy of many cultures that thrive in Sacramento.

Families have shared that their children have spent their days playing, exploring, and doing many arts and crafts at Art Beast Children’s Studio, and that they receive daily updates with pictures of their children’s time there. Some parents describe the teachers and staff as loving, supportive, genuinely caring, very communicative, and intentional in what they do with the children, and say they feel lucky to be part of the Art Beast community. Parents also describe the space as beautiful, inclusive, and welcoming, and mention that the program invites parents to share in their own community.

The program lists its leadership as including a Program Director and a Center Director and notes its child care license number as LIC# 343624444.
