About
Culture Shock San Diego Summer Camps focuses on Hip Hop Foundation movement, performance, and history through structured dance classes. Campers take part in four dance sessions each day and prepare for an informal showing of what they learned on Friday from 3:30pm–4:00pm.
• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: July 21–July 25, 11:30am–4:00pm, with an informal showing on Friday at 3:30pm
• Price: $ 325 – Payments will be made through a Culture Shock San Diego Pike 13 account (https://cultureshocksandiego.pike13.com/offerings)
The camp is limited to a maximum of 40 dancers and is an all-level program that especially encourages beginning to intermediate dancers or those looking to strengthen their fundamentals and push toward an intermediate level. Dancers learn from four instructors each day, and camps are not open for observation. Families are asked to pack a healthy lunch and snack and to send plenty of water. Internationally renowned graffiti artists have brought their art to the studio walls.
Culture Shock San Diego was founded in 1993 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance organization dedicated to innovative performance, artistic development, and community outreach. The camp manager is Lolita Burgess. Culture Shock states that it inspires and empowers diverse community members to achieve artistic excellence by providing progressive training, development, and performance opportunities in the art of Hip Hop dance, and that it utilizes dance to cultivate education, entertainment, and empowerment to inspire positive change in the communities it serves.
