About
Jump Start Youth Program introduces kids to volleyball through movement training, ball control drills, passing, setting, attacking, overhand serving, and game play. The program focuses on proper technique and high quality repetitions during these volleyball activities, with no tryouts required to participate. It is open to beginning players with little or no experience who want to learn the fundamentals, as well as 2nd–4th graders of all experience levels and 5th–6th graders with less than one year of experience.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: Each session consists of five one-hour clinics on Monday afternoons, with Group A from 3:30–4:30 p.m. and Group B from 4:30–5:30 p.m., and Sessions 5 and 6 meeting from 4:00–5:00 p.m.; there are 4 or 5 practices per session depending on holidays, and there are 9 Jump Start sessions offered throughout each calendar year.
• Price: Session Fee: $100 (includes a t-shirt) for 4 practice sessions; $125 (includes a t-shirt) for 5 practice sessions.
The Jump Start Youth Program is part of San Diego/Seaside Volleyball Club, whose mission is “Learning Life Through Volleyball,” including building confident young people, helping athletes excel at and develop a life-long love of the sport, and teaching athletes to have a strong sense of respect for themselves and others. Under the guidance of Directors Dave Whittaker, Ashley Payne, Russ Bird, and Kim Bird, the coaching staff uses the latest instructional techniques in individual and team play. San Diego Volleyball Club was established in 1986, moved to its current 4S Ranch facility in 2005, Seaside Volleyball Club was founded in 1989, and in 2009 SDVBC welcomed Seaside VBC as the Boys Program.
San Diego Girls VBC, founded in 1986, has earned 3 National Championships, is the longest running volleyball club in San Diego, was the first club to host local tournaments, and has hundreds of alumni who have played or are playing in college. Seaside Boys VBC, founded in 1989, has earned 4 National Championships, was the first boys club to host local tournaments, and also has hundreds of alumni who have played or are playing in college; Seaside is the only boys club in San Diego to win a national championship, with four titles, including Seaside 17-Mikasa winning the 2010 17 Open Junior National Championship and 17 Black taking Bronze at Nationals in 2017.
