Outpost Summer Camps offers daily activities in the park, preserve, and pool in a 100% outdoor, unplugged setting. Campers take part in active outdoor play in small, consistent camp groups of 12 campers with 2–3 staff for the entire session. The program includes community-building through small groups and all-camp traditions, along with connection through intentionally timed group activities throughout each session.
• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Programs for children entering grades K–9 run in four separate two-week sessions from June through August, with Day Camp and Senior Outpost meeting Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Outpost Summer Camps offers programs for children entering grades K–5 in its Day Camp and for children entering grades 6–9 in its Senior Outpost program. The camp operates between mid-June and August each summer.
Outpost Summer Camps is a family-owned small business privately owned and operated by Stuart and Kelly Jones as part of Outpost Recreation and Education, Inc. The inspiration for the program came from Stuart Jones’s childhood camp, Tom Sawyer Camps in Altadena, California. Outpost was founded in 2002 and is celebrating its 24th summer in 2026.
The program employs college students and child development professionals on its staff. Its directors are described as experienced professionals who work year-round to create the programs. Outpost Summer Camps offers ACA accredited summer day camp programs.
The camp’s philosophy, called “group-centered camping,” focuses on creating an environment in which each camper feels like they belong to the group and are a special, unique part of it. According to the program, this approach fosters confidence, creativity, social skills, and a positive sense of self and community.
Outpost Summer Camps offers a Junior Counselor leadership program for high school students. A custom Outpost Summer Camps app is available for parents of enrolled campers on the Apple Store and Android. One parent testimonial states, “Having my daughter in your camp makes me feel better about having to be away from her all day in the summer months.”
