Gesher means “bridge” in Hebrew, and the Tifereth Israel Gesher Transitional Kindergarten is described as a bridge into Kindergarten. Gesher’s play-based curriculum and program are stated to be parallel to the UTK classes offered through the public school district and use a modified Kindergarten curriculum, parallel to that of the public school district. The curriculum is described as age and developmentally appropriate and emphasizes social behavior, play, language, mathematics, literacy, and writing skills, with a class design that uses a practice-based approach based on cognitive and motor skills. The day is structured, and students learn classroom respect and independence, with program goals that include social readiness, listening skills, oral language skills, reading readiness, math readiness, writing, fine motor development, and gross motor skills. Gesher is described as “truly a gift of an extra year.”

The teachers at Silverman Preschool / Tifereth Israel Gesher Transitional Kindergarten have made early childhood education their career and continue their learning through college courses, seminars, and workshops.
