About

After-School Programs offers homework help, creative writing prompts, individualized tutoring, and after-school tutoring. The program also includes after-school workshops, storytelling and bookmaking field trips, podcasting field trips, and magical field trip adventures.

• Schedule: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., every day

826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting under-resourced students ages six to eighteen with their creative and expository writing skills and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. It offers free writing and publishing programs for youth from underserved communities in San Francisco, CA. The Mission Center supports schools including Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8, Everett Middle School, and Mission High School. The Tenderloin Center supports schools including De Marillac Academy and Tenderloin Community School. The Mission Bay Center supports schools including Starr King Elementary, Bret Harte Elementary, Malcolm X Academy, Downtown High School, and San Francisco International High School. 826 Valencia has been active from 2002 to 2026. One student, Chelsea R., says, “I write about the world I wish to see, where I am powerful and where my writing can give voice to people who are like me.” The Pirate Supply Store fronts the flagship location in the heart of the Mission, Woodland Creature Outfitters, Ltd. peddles magical tinctures and tall tales in Mission Bay, and King Carl’s Emporium is open by appointment only.
