Bay Area Disc Association is a nonprofit disc organization. Bay Area Disc’s mission is to serve, strengthen, and grow the Ultimate community by creating opportunities for athletes of all ages and backgrounds to interact, develop, and compete, and in all aspects of its work and play it embraces and promotes Spirit of the Game. Bay Area Disc Summer Camps offer elementary and middle school kids a place to build skills, make friends, and enjoy being outdoors, and camps are available across the Bay Area and welcome all experience levels. Bay Area Disc is centered on four core values: Fun, Respect, Community, Belonging, and uses the sport of Ultimate to improve individuals and communities.
The organization was founded in 2009 by leaders of the San Francisco Ultimate League, San Francisco Ultimate Club, Bay Area Youth Ultimate, East Bay Ultimate League, and Marin Ultimate Summer League. Within its first ten years, Bay Area Disc Association operated under the fiscal sponsorship of Community Initiatives, and by September 2018 it became an independent nonprofit that was running more than 100 distinct Ultimate programs in 75 different cities across all nine Bay Area counties, serving 5,000 adult and youth players annually. From March 2020 until May 2021, Bay Area Disc Association was unable to host Ultimate programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and during this time staff ran alternative programming, remote events, and shared educational resources for adult and youth players. By June 2021 the organization started its return to the fields, and as of September 2021 it had officially resumed all Ultimate programming.
Bay Area Disc Association thanks its partners: Olympic Club Foundation, Ultimate Impact, Bay Area Falcons, Oakland Spiders, GuideStar, and Discraft.
