Bay Jiu-Jitsu Kids Program and Camps is part of Bay Jiu-Jitsu, which was created in 2008. In 2010, founder Stephan Goyne earned his black belt and then opened the first permanent Bay Jiu-Jitsu location in Japantown, and over the next ten years the gym grew to four locations throughout the Bay Area. COVID in 2020 led to the closure of three of the four gyms, and the Japantown gym is now back and fully operational.

Founder and Co-Head Coach Stephan Goyne has been training and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1998 and received his black belt in 2010 after winning numerous gold medals at brown belt level in national and international tournaments, including the IBJJF American Nationals, East Coast NAGA, and the American Cup. He expanded his training into SAMBO and Combat Wrestling and won the FICW Masters World Championships, and he won gold for the USA in the Veterans 2016 Combat Wrestling World Championships in Hungary and placed second the following year in Japan.

The program is part of world-class kids and adults programs in Mill Valley and San Francisco and is known as one of the most welcoming and competitive martial arts schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bay Jiu-Jitsu’s vision is to provide accessible, world-class training for people of all ages, sizes, genders, and backgrounds across its martial arts disciplines, welcoming not only athletes but anyone looking to learn new skills, get in shape, have fun, and become part of its community. Bay Jiu-Jitsu is built around five core values: It’s Fun Because It’s Hard, Actively Progressing, Ownership, Inclusivity, and What We Learn on the Mat, We Take Into the World, and it welcomes a friendly training environment to anyone regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or race.

Bay Jiu-Jitsu is associated with Rdojo, a multi-gym grappling team and training group founded by Reilly Bodycomb. Athletes from Bay Jiu-Jitsu often compete alongside other Rdojo associated gyms to form a unified team at competitions across the United States and internationally. Rdojo athletes compete in a variety of combat sports including Jiu-Jitsu, Sport SAMBO, Judo, MMA, Combat Wrestling, Shuai Jiao, Combat SAMBO, San Shou, Kickboxing, Medieval Armored Combat, and Submission Grappling. Bay Jiu-Jitsu’s jiu-jitsu team participates in local, state, national, and international tournaments and strives to offer a dogma-free training environment focused on building a comprehensive, cutting edge, and effective approach to martial arts, regardless of the rule set.
