The mission of Sunset Academy of Dance states that it offers exceptional dance training and education in a small studio environment and focuses on developing confidence, coordination, musicality, rhythm, team work, and a love for dance for its students. The program notes that its competition groups have won many top awards at numerous competitions.
The studio highlights that it has exceptional and knowledgeable teachers who will inspire their students while teaching them great technique. All students take part in an annual show in early June each year, where they perform in a professional-style show, and students may also join competition groups that compete and perform at different venues. Classes are open and accepting new students, and families can use online registration for classes.
Dancers are asked to be dressed to dance in close fitting dance clothes so teachers can observe proper body alignment, and dancers should change into proper dance clothes before class, with no jeans allowed in any dance class. For hip hop, dancers wear comfortable clothing with tennis shoes. For tap, dancers wear capri pants or jazz pants with a close fitting top and black oxford style tap shoes for ages 10 and up. For jazz and contemporary, dancers wear tights, shorts, or dance pants cut above the knee with a leotard or tank top and tan lyrical shoes for contemporary, as directed by the teacher. For children’s combo classes, dancers wear a leotard and tights in any color or style, with black tap shoes and black ballet or jazz shoes for children’s tap/jazz.
