About
Mariposa Kids offers out-of-school time programming that includes an After-School Program, Summer Camps, Holiday Camps, a Children & Family Program, and a Junior Rec Leader Program. The program includes outdoor activities that use playgrounds and sports, as well as a drop-in program that combines unstructured play time with planned activities that take place both inside and outside. Programs are centered around the three pillars of Free Play, Safe Space, and Community, and also include leadership growth for children, teenagers, and college students through offerings such as Leaders of the Future.
• Ages: 1–11 years old
• Schedule: Drop-in Children & Family Program offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:30am–12:30pm
• Price: This new Children & Family Program is free for young children to engage in play.
The Kids' Co-Op, Inc. began in 2007 as a co-op preschool in the Mission and later evolved into Mariposa Kids as the main project and focus. Mariposa Kids provides play-based out-of-school time programming for kids ages 5–11 and offers a free Children & Family Program for children ages 1–5. The mission of Mariposa Kids is to support and inspire children’s natural curiosity and independence through free play during their out-of-school time. The wait list for new families for the 2026–27 After-School Program is open, and registration is full, and 2026 Summer Camp registration is open for families in the Financial Assistance Program only.
Community Thrift Store, a non-profit organization, partners with Mariposa Kids and other Bay Area charities to provide an opportunity for revenue via in-kind donations to their shop in the Mission. By increasing access to safe outdoor space, Mariposa Kids promotes outdoor activities so that children increase their average time outdoors on a daily and weekly basis. Mariposa Kids has been recognized as a Finalist for Non-Profit of the Year in the SF Chamber of Commerce 2024 Excellence in Business Awards, is a THRIVE ZONE Recipient from the Golden State Warriors, and received the 2025 Consumer Choice Award for Business Excellence - Summer Camp.
