Mariposa Kids offers play-based out-of-school time programming that includes playground use and sports. The program combines unstructured play time with planned activities that take place both inside and outside. Mariposa Kids offers free play-based programming through an After-School Program, Holiday Camps, Summer Camps, and a Children & Family Program for younger children.

• Schedule: Drop-in program at the Bernal Heights Clubhouse on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:30am–12:30pm
• Price: This new Children & Family Program is free for young children

Mariposa Kids provides programming for children ages 5–11 in the Mission District of San Francisco and offers a Children & Family Program for children ages 2–5. The Bernal Heights Clubhouse drop-in program is first come, first serve with a maximum of 10 children at a time, and caregivers must stay on site at all times for this drop-in program. The organization centers its programs around three stated pillars: Free Play, Safe Space, and Community, and promotes outdoor activities so that children increase their average time outdoors on a daily and weekly basis.

The Kids' Co-Op, Inc. began in 2007 as a co-op preschool in the Mission, and Mariposa Kids is now the main project and focus of this nonprofit. The mission of Mariposa Kids is to support and inspire children’s natural curiosity and independence through free play during their out-of-school time. The program focuses on quality out-of-school time programming and on providing opportunities to serve the community through public space activation, family engagement, and leadership growth for children, teenagers, and college students.

Mariposa Kids has been recognized as a Finalist for Non-Profit of the Year in the SF Chamber of Commerce 2024 Excellence in Business Awards, is a THRIVE ZONE recipient from the Golden State Warriors, and has received the 2025 Consumer Choice Award for Business Excellence in the Summer Camp category. Community Thrift Store, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, partners with Mariposa Kids and other Bay Area charities to provide an opportunity for revenue via in-kind donations to its shop in the Mission.
