The San Francisco Lacrosse Club, Inc., also known as Riptide, is a non-profit, volunteer-led organization and a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public benefits corporation. The club is run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, with Steve Dini as the current Chair of the Board and Marc Chaput as the current Treasurer. The Riptide was formed from the merger of two established non-profit programs, the Outlaws (San Francisco City Lacrosse) and the Quakes (San Francisco Youth Lacrosse Club), whose boards met in 2010 and decided to combine into a single program; on October 1, 2010, they became the San Francisco Lacrosse Club, Inc. These organizations had been serving the San Francisco youth lacrosse community since 2003.

The organization states that it is dedicated to promoting the sport of lacrosse throughout the city of San Francisco and is committed to teaching the sport to all ages of boys and girls in the city. Its stated goal is to instill within players a respect and love of the game, as well as an appreciation of the skills and teamwork needed to succeed on the field. The mission statement says that coaches share a passion for the sport, love to teach and inspire players in developing their lacrosse skills, and are dedicated to creating an atmosphere of learning, fun, and mutual support of all players.

San Francisco Lacrosse states that it believes every child who is interested should have the opportunity to play lacrosse and that, if registration or equipment costs present a hardship, it will provide scholarship assistance. The club has a Grow the Game campaign to help remove barriers to entry created by equipment and other costs and seeks donations to support scholarship and equipment sponsorship assistance.
