Theatre takes place at the SFJAZZ Center, which includes the 700-seat Robert N. Miner Auditorium and the 100-seat Joe Henderson Lab. The building features three commissioned tiled murals on the second floor created by Sandow Birk and Elyse Pignolet.
• Schedule: Box Office Hours Wednesday–Saturday 12:00 PM–5:30 PM, closed Sunday–Tuesday, and also open 90 minutes prior to showtime.
Opened in 2013, the SFJAZZ Center marked its 10th anniversary in January 2023. The building was designed by award-winning architect Mark Cavagnero, with audio designed by acoustical consultant Sam Berkow. SFJAZZ’s leadership includes Co-founder and Artistic Director Randall Kline, Resident Artistic Director John Santos, Education Director Rebeca Mauleón, and Public Relations representative Kevin Kopjak. Ishmael Reed served as SFJAZZ’s first Poet Laureate from 2013 to 2015, and his poem “When I Die I Will Go To Jazz” is installed on the north gate of Raise Up Off Me Alley on Linden Street at the SFJAZZ Center.
The SFJAZZ Center is described by The Guardian London as “one of the greatest jazz concert halls in the world.” A photography exhibit titled “10 YEARS AT SFJAZZ CENTER,” curated by SFJAZZ Photographer Laureate Jim Goldberg, is part of the Center’s unique features. A selection of photos from the Center’s first 10 years of concerts and artists is displayed in the window-sills of the SFUSD building opposite the SFJAZZ Center.
