theCoderSchool is described as Silicon Valley’s first nationwide kids coding program and is part of a nationwide system of over 70 locations teaching over 7,000 students every week with 1,000+ expert Code Coaches. It was founded in 2013 as an after-school drop-off (and virtual) program for kids learning to code and has been headquartered and founded in Silicon Valley since 2014. Its flagship after-school program, Code Coaching, uses a super-small 2:1 teaching ratio and an individualized curriculum with custom projects built to suit each student, and its coding camps have a low ratio of around 6:1 taught by expert Code Coaches. The mission states that every kid is different, so they are taught with custom projects, and that coding is about consistent problem solving and understanding technology fundamentals, from how the internet works to what makes up Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on teaching kids to think logically, explain their ideas, and problem-solve creatively.

TheCoderSchool is a longtime partner of the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) and is collaborating with CAC beginning in 2025–2026 to run a national recognition program to identify a handful of the top applications from CAC submissions across the country. TheCoderSchool is a partner of the Congressional App Challenge, and one of its students, Shreya Aghi, was named winner of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge in California’s 11th District by Nancy Pelosi.
