About
theCoderSchool (San Francisco - Richmond) Coding Programs include Digital Arts Studio: 3D Modeling, Python Code Class Series, Scratch Game Design Code Class Series, and coding camps. Students in Digital Arts Studio work with digital design tools and learn foundations of 3D graphics using Blender, progressing to more complex shapes and designs. Scratch Game Design uses MIT’s Scratch platform with drag and drop blocks for creative coding and game design, and Python Code Class Series focuses on Python projects and Python syntax.
• Ages: 8–13 years old
• Schedule: Each class series (Digital Arts Studio: 3D Modeling, Python Code Class Series, Scratch Game Design Code Class Series) runs for 12 weekly sessions from 3/8–5/31, with no classes on 4/5.
• Price: Digital Arts Studio: 3D Modeling – 12 weekly sessions for $399. Python Code Class Series – 12 weekly sessions for $399. Scratch Game Design Code Class Series – 12 weekly sessions for $399.
theCoderSchool is Silicon Valley’s first nationwide kids coding program and has been headquartered and founded in Silicon Valley since 2014. Its core program uses a super-small student to teacher ratio, typically 2:1, through its flagship after-school Code Coaching program with individualized curriculum, along with entry-level classes in a larger ratio, @school classes, and coding camps with a low ratio of around 6:1 taught by expert Code Coaches. The program offers custom projects built to suit each student and focuses on consistent problem solving and understanding technology fundamentals, including how the internet works, what makes up Artificial Intelligence, and how AI works, how to use it responsibly, and how to think critically about the technology around them. Digital Arts Studio is a program for digital design using cutting edge tools where no coding is needed, while Scratch Game Design engages problem solving skills and teaches computer science fundamentals like loops, conditionals, and variables, as well as math concepts including coordinate geometry, negative numbers, angles, and boolean logic. Python Code Class Series introduces Python for students with no prior coding experience or who are just learning how to type, and students learn Python syntax such as loops, variables, line structure, function calls, Cartesian coordinates, and more. theCoderSchool’s tagline is “Learn to code. Change the world®,” and it offers an after-school drop-off and virtual program for kids learning to code as part of a nationwide system of over 70 locations teaching over 7,000 students every week with 1000+ expert Code Coaches.
As a longtime partner of the Congressional App Challenge, theCoderSchool is involved in encouraging innovation through coding across the country, and Nancy Pelosi named one of theCoderSchool’s students, Shreya Aghi, winner of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge in California’s 11th District. One parent from New Jersey stated, “If you want your child to learn STEM concepts via coding, send them here. I’ve been in IT for 23 years and I have not seen anything close to the customized curriculum they created. Hands down, this is the place you want your kids to be.” Another parent from California shared that her son is having a “wonderful experience at The Coder School” with “exceptional” instructors and that online classes have been “a quarantine lifesaver.” A parent from Georgia reported that her son is “loving his coding lessons that are currently all being done online,” that coaches and staff are “very helpful,” and that he “really learned a lot” in an online spring break camp while creating games to work on between sessions. A parent from Connecticut said, “The kids really loved the Scratch camp. I haven’t seen them this excited about learning something new in a very long time. We look forward to coming back in late August.”
