World Team USA Muay Thai, BJJ & Fitness is a Muay Thai, MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training gym that offers 30 weekly classes and fitness programs for men, women and children of all ages and sizes. Programs are described as beginner friendly, with kids and adults welcome, and are presented as world-class Muay Thai and martial arts training for all levels. The curriculum blends traditional Muay Thai with a modern approach and is described as highly organized to meet varying needs, with programs that support every stage of a martial arts journey. The academy uses the slogan “Live your dream!” and offers Muay Thai only to those whose personality, goals and lifestyle fit with Muay Thai at Team USA, while also offering Kung-Fu as one of two options for kids.
Chief Instructor and Owner Kru Sam Phimsoutham is a Thai/Lao trainer who was certified as “Kru” by Master Toddy and is listed as the owner and master instructor, with champions as senior instructors and coaches as assistant instructors. The staff includes certified instructors who bring years of experience, knowledge and expertise, come from diverse martial arts backgrounds, and have unique pricing structures based on their experience and profiles. The organization reports 14 awards. Each instructor is described as committed to helping students reach their full potential and achieve their goals, no matter what their skill level may be.
World Team USA states that it has offered elite Muay Thai training in the San Francisco Bay Area for over two decades. Kru Sam brought Muay Thai to the Bay Area in 1991 and opened Team USA nearly 20 years ago, where he raised his second generation of champions. SFPD Officer Paul Lozada gave Kru Sam his first teaching job at a small academy in downtown San Francisco.
According to its mission statement, World Team USA will teach students about their strengths, how to build confidence, how to relieve stress and how to find the discipline to reach their goals. The Team USA staff is described as going beyond the call of duty to teach self-respect, confidence and discipline learned through martial arts practice. The mission statement says the school strives for superiority through a unique Muay Thai curriculum that combines a modern approach and traditional values, and that all instructors must be totally committed to martial arts. It states that there is no such thing as a superior style of martial arts or the best Muay Thai school, and that the school respects every style of martial art in the ring. Students are encouraged to set short, intermediate and long-term goals, and each level is described as important for achieving success in martial arts and in everyday life. The mission statement notes that the school respects that every student has different goals, whether to become a World Champion in Muay Thai or to nurture the mind, body and spirit.
