School Break Camps takes place within the broader community of Temple Beth Sholom. The program is connected to a congregation that identifies as independent and inclusive, with a multi-generational focus.
• Ages: 5–11 years old
Temple Beth Sholom’s leadership team includes Rabbi Josh Weisman, Cantor Linda Hirschhorn, and Rabbi Emeritus Harry A. Manhoff. The congregation’s mission states that it is dedicated to creating an inclusive, multi-generational village action. It describes itself as a gathering place welcoming diversity with open arms in a warm, respectful environment for all, and as a caring community supporting one another through celebrations and challenges. It is described as a spiritual center bringing Jewish traditions alive through song, prayer, reflection, and discussion, and as a place to learn that embraces lifelong learning with open hearts and curious minds. Temple Beth Sholom identifies as a climate-resilient community addressing climate change with hope and action, a resource center providing support and stability in times of need, and a voice for justice advocating for equity and sustainability through community partnerships. It is committed to the well-being of Jewish communities locally and globally and to Jewish values including B’tzelem Elohim (in the image of the divine), G’milut chasadim (acts of generosity and kindness), and Tzedek, tzedek tirdof (justice, justice shall you pursue). Temple Beth Sholom is recognized as a California Certified Green Business and a Resilience Hub of the City of San Leandro.
