About

Play-Well TEKnologies LEGO-Inspired Engineering Programs has children build engineer-designed projects using LEGO® materials. Participants take part in Adventures in STEM using LEGO® Materials, use special LEGO® pieces to create unique designs, and work on engineering and architectural projects. During class, students inspect, test, modify, and rebuild their engineering projects, and instructors offer advanced challenges and modifications for experienced students while adjusting the curriculum to the interests and experience level of the group.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: July 22–26, 2024, Monday–Friday, 9:00am–12:00pm

Play-Well TEKnologies provides project-based programs designed to teach principles and methods of engineering to children ages 5–14 using LEGO®. The curriculum is designed by engineers, and students are introduced to concepts and vocabulary of engineering and architecture, as well as engineering terminology to use throughout the class. Programs engage students in solving real-world engineering challenges that explore concepts in physics, architecture, and engineering, with a stated goal to foster a greater appreciation of how things work and to encourage inquisitiveness, self-reliance, and self-confidence in children. Each class utilizes over 20,000 pieces of LEGO®, and students have access to tens of thousands of LEGO® parts, though participants do not take any LEGO® materials home and Play-Well does not sell the LEGO® parts used in camps and classes.

Projects are rotated seasonally so that new and returning students encounter new experiences, and the curriculums are described as ever evolving. The responsibility of instructors is stated as never leaving any student bored or unchallenged. Parents or guardians are asked to sign children in and out each day of summer camp, and instructors stay in the classroom with the child until a parent or guardian picks them up and signs them out. Parents or guardians are encouraged to come 30 minutes before the end of class to see projects, and parents who want photos of projects are encouraged either to come at that time or give their child a device to take pictures, with Play-Well not responsible for any lost or broken devices.

Parents are encouraged to provide a peanut-free snack for their child, and depending on the weather, the group may go outside for a brief snack break. Play-Well cannot guarantee that LEGO® pieces in kits are completely free of peanut oils. Play-Well TEKnologies has been growing future engineers since 1997 and operates nationwide. These programs are not authorized, sponsored, or endorsed by the LEGO Group.
