Oakview Preschool includes outside time where children can converse in the sandbox, as well as chances for mastering a two-wheel bike. Inside the classrooms, children take part in inside story groups, science exploration, and yoga as part of the daily routine.

Oakview Preschool is a play-based preschool and is described as one of the only truly play-based schools left in the area. The program was founded drawing on theories from Reggio-Emilia, Jean Piaget, and Maria Montessori, among others, and its philosophy also draws on bits of various schools of thought, from Rudolf Steiner to Jean Piaget. All teachers have at least the core 12 Early Childhood Education units and are CPR and first aid certified, and teachers attend conferences, workshops, and classes to keep polished. In 1977 the Dixie School District leased the Oakview School property to founder, Olga Scharninghausen. In 2019, after 12 years of teaching the TK class at Oakview, Lindsey Toomajian purchased the school and took over as Head of School and Director. The founder is listed as Olga Scharninghausen, and the Head of School and Director is Lindsey Toomajian, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from CSU Chico and has taken numerous Early Childhood Education classes from SFSU, COM, and SRJC.
The mission of Oakview Preschool is to nurture children’s desire to create, explore and grow in a safe and supportive environment that offers them comfort and room to push their own boundaries. The program states that it is a play-based preschool providing experiences for children to explore and discover at their own pace, and that it aims to pave the foundation for confident, curious, kind and empathetic learners, allowing for growth into socially aware problem solvers of the future.
