• Schedule: 3-month introduction to Tai Chi for beginners starting Monday, April 13, 2026
The Academy of Martial and Internal Arts describes its curriculum as unusually rich and notes that it has gathered more martial information than most schools in the Western world. Among its offerings are styles and methods described as hardly known to even 1% of martial artists in the Western world, and each style not only uses Qigong but also trains methods specific to that style. The Academy teaches classical Chinese weapons that have been practiced for thousands of years, and the level of martial arts training is described as entirely different from what are often children’s classes taught at adult level.
The head instructor is Ted Mancuso, with notable contributions to instruction from Adam Hsu, Howard Slatoff, John Ottenberg, and Linda Darrigo. The Academy states that its approach to self defense is a rational, mature approach to self protection that should not victimize the learner, and that no one wants to use self defense but every student can be benefited by a reasonable increase in this skill set.
The Academy’s community involvement includes a connection to Plum Publications, which published “Life Is Too Short For Bad Kung Fu” by the Academy’s Grandteacher, Sifu Adam Hsu. Current Academy students receive a 10% discount on all purchases on the plumpub.com site by noting their status or using the code AMIA10.
