About
Aikido of Santa Cruz Youth Programs offers Aikido for children and teens. Aikido in this program is practiced as “The Art of Peace,” a dynamic martial art based on harmony. Training includes multifaceted practice of body, mind, and spirit in the principles of harmony, natural movement, and “the spirit of love and protection for all.”
• Ages: 5–17 years old
Aikido of Santa Cruz is a non-profit public-benefit educational organization serving the community since 1982. The mission of Aikido of Santa Cruz states that it welcomes sincere students of any race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnic background. Aikido in this program emphasizes inner strength rather than physical strength and is described as accessible to all ages and body types. Women and men train together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. Aikido practice in this setting is described as empowering, fun, and inspiring for everyone. The leadership lineage of the dojo includes Motomichi Anno Sensei (1931–2026) and Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei (1883–1969), the founder of Aikido.
