Founded in 1967, YouthSERVE operates as part of the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County. The Volunteer Center connects people for good because meaningful service is described as the heart of a strong, vibrant community and a healthy, happy life. The Volunteer Center operates 4 facilities and 22 programs, mobilizing over 15,000 volunteers who partner with more than 300 nonprofit and community agencies. YouthSERVE is dedicated to connecting youth in middle school and high school with volunteer projects across Santa Cruz County and offers regular clean-up projects that are open to youth and families. The program has partnered with the County of Santa Cruz Public Works for a graffiti removal project and can schedule a graffiti removal project for a group. YouthSERVE is seeking adult leaders to help supervise youth volunteers for weekend and after-school projects throughout Santa Cruz County. The Volunteer Center has evolved into a nationally recognized model for community engagement. The leadership team includes Karen Delaney, Executive Director of the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County, and Leslie Lee, Director of Community Engagement.
