About
Santa Monica Baseball Academy offers baseball instructional training that includes infield work, outfield work, base running, hitting, pitching, scrimmages, sliding, turning, speed, and sports performance training. Players take part in fielding, throwing, catching, proper throwing mechanics, infield/outfield skills, catching technique, pitching instruction, base running instruction, and game situations. The program also offers Sunday Skills Sessions in fielding, pitching, hitting, and catching, as well as advanced hitting and pitching instruction that covers tee work, balance, identifying pitches, pitching fundamentals, pitching grips, pitch selections, preventative arm care, velocity, pick-offs, and location pitching. Hit Factory Spring Break Hitting Camp sessions include use of hitting machines, batting cages, one-on-one instruction, swing mechanics, hitting for power, plate zone identification, and strength-building techniques with speed and agility.

• Schedule: Youth Baseball Camps typically run 9am–3pm, Elite Camp runs 9am–12pm, SMBA Hitting Camps run 9am–12pm Monday–Thursday, Spring Break Camps run Week 1 March 30–April 3 and Week 2 April 6–10 or April 6–11 from 9am–3pm, Hit Factory Spring Break Hitting Camp runs Week 1 March 30–April 2 and Week 2 April 6–9 from 9am–12pm, and Sunday Skills Sessions run 1.5 hours on Sundays with 8–10 year olds from 9am–10:30am and 11–14 year olds from 10:30am–12pm.
• Price: $20 per player, per session for Sunday Skills Sessions.
A typical camp day runs from 9am–3pm and includes sign-in at 9:00am, warm-ups from 9:15am–9:30am, baseball instructional training blocks from 9:30am–10:30am and 10:40am–12:00pm, lunch from 12:00pm–1:00pm, more instructional training from 1:00pm–1:40pm, a scrimmage from 1:45pm–2:45pm, and camp cool down and check down from 2:50pm–3:00pm. Players are separated and grouped by age and ability, and all players train with groups at the same level. Subway lunch is available both weeks of camp, with a discounted SMBA Real Deal Subway Box Lunch that offers a different sandwich each day, ordered at camp sign-in by 10am for delivery at noon, with free delivery on the day of camp. At the end of each week, the program cools off with Santa Monica’s Handel’s Ice Cream, and Handel’s ice cream is available each Friday.
Elite camp players receive an SMBA lightweight string backpack with an SMBA team pin, sports bracelet, batting grip tape, and an SMBA tee-shirt. All eligible players can enter the MLB Pitch Hit and Run Contest during the week of camp, and the winner represents Santa Monica in the Sectionals with a chance at the championship. Instructions are given by coaches who know the game and by professional baseball coaches, and each coach is vetted, background checked, and trained with Santa Monica Baseball Academy through the City of Santa Monica. The leadership team includes Coach Max, who is mentioned in weekly skills with Coach Max.
