Loose & Expressive Watermedia Art Classes
ART for the SOUL of it (Joanie Springer's studio and online via Zoom), 2323 Chanate Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95404
About
Loose & Expressive Watermedia Art Classes focuses on loose and expressive watermedia, including watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and mixed media. The program also includes private art lessons that cover topics such as color theory, color mixing, value studies, demystifying art supplies, working in series, developing a body of work, and inspiration and creativity.
• Schedule: Group classes are offered on Monday afternoons and on Monday and Wednesday mornings, and private art lessons are 90-minute sessions.
From 2009 to the present, art teacher Joanie Springer has exhibited in galleries both online and in brick and mortar spaces, had solo art shows, and had her art published in magazines and on covers. Since 2018 she has been showing at Red Shoes Gallery in Santa Rosa, California, and since 2020 she has taught her weekly art classes on Zoom. Her background includes an M.A. in Culture and Spirituality from Holy Names University, a B.A. in Literature/Creative Writing from Sonoma State University, and she is a self-taught artist. Classes are offered both online via Zoom and in person, and online students can receive weekly video recordings that are available for two weeks after class, with each class session recorded and posted for 14 days with an option to download. Private 90-minute lessons include a video of the class emailed after the lesson, and online class participants have access to a private Facebook group page to share work, comment, and receive feedback. Students who attend online need to have the Zoom app downloaded.
Testimonials from weekly students and workshop participants describe Joanie as encouraging, inspirational, organized, generous in sharing her experience, and focused on helping students learn new things and find their own style. One student notes learning to make colors from just the primary colors red, blue, and yellow, and another mentions that painting with her is a highlight of the week.
