About
Santa Rosa Tutoring offers private tutoring, group lessons for preschoolers through 2nd graders, ELA instruction for 3rd and 4th graders, and remedial tutoring. The program also offers a complete 2–4 day a week PreK–1st grade curriculum, Mini Curriculum Kits for PreK–2nd grade, and both private weekly tutoring and remedial weekly tutoring. Santa Rosa Tutoring specializes in early reading and writing skills and provides educational services for PreK through 3rd grade, following Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy and pedagogy.
• Ages: 3–10 years old
• Schedule: Private weekly tutoring sessions are available in 60-minute blocks (50 minutes of instruction and 10 minutes for pick up, drop off, or a small break) or 90-minute blocks (80 minutes of instruction and 10 minutes for pick up, drop off, or a small break); remedial weekly tutoring sessions are 60 minutes (50 minutes of instruction and 10 minutes for pick up, drop off, or a small break).
• Price: Private weekly tutoring is $95.00 for a 60-minute session for one child and $150.00 for a 90-minute session for one child; remedial weekly tutoring has individualized educational plans starting at $110.00 per session.
Each child at Santa Rosa Tutoring is given their own curriculum that focuses on shaping the whole child, with an environment prepared for a higher level of learning and a focus on physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Private weekly tutoring and remedial weekly tutoring both include materials, homework, and advice for parents, and Mini Curriculum Kits are designed to keep students on track with resources and materials. The program has experience with gifted students, special needs, Montessori classrooms, and traditional classrooms.
Santa Rosa Tutoring’s mission is to create a solid academic foundation at an early age to provide the child with the confidence and skills needed for future academic excellence. The program is led by early childhood educator Michelle Lazuka, who has been an ECE teacher for over 15 years and holds a Masters Degree in Education from Chaminade University of Honolulu, earned summa cum laude, and a BA in Child & Family Studies from Ohio University. She holds a Montessori AMS teaching credential, is a private tutor and reading specialist, and previously served as Director, Co-Founder, and Teacher at Little Monk Seal Montessori in Kihei, HI, and as Director and Lead Teacher at Kansha Preschool in Wailuku, HI. She has been a writer for the monthly Educational Keiki column in the Neighbors of Wailea and Makena Magazine, is DHS & PATCH Director & Lead Teacher Certified, and is a Certified Registered Keiki & Adult Yoga Instructor.
Parents describe Michelle as warm, kind-hearted, patient, and genuinely sincere and caring, and note that she makes learning fun and uses a playful way to experience learning. One parent reports that a child who had been at risk of being held back in first grade became ready for 2nd grade after working with her and that both of their children have made what they call “astronomical” progress in private tutoring sessions. Other parents state that their children developed a deep love of learning and an overwhelming devotion to protecting the planet while working with her, and that she has a deep understanding of the Montessori way of teaching and is a “treasure” to their community.
