Mark West Stables Summer Camp

Mark West Stables Summer Camp is a week-long day camp that includes riding, horsemanship, formal activities, and fun activities. Both horses and ponies are available to suit individual riding needs. The camp is described as a friendly and professional Hunter/Jumper barn with a huge all-weather outdoor arena and a lighted indoor arena set on 85 acres.

• Schedule: Week-long day camp sessions, Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–3:00 pm, offered in multiple weeks from early June through early August
• Price: $750 per session

The leadership team includes owner and trainer Virginie Richard and assistant trainer Megan Hernandez. Virginie has been training students and horses at Mark West Stables for more than two decades. Megan has been part of the Mark West team for more than two decades, showed competitively in hunters, jumpers, and equitation as a young equestrian, and over the years began teaching lessons and worked up to an assistant trainer position. Megan uses her years of experience riding and teaching to help her students become accomplished and confident riders. The program’s stated mission from Virginie is, “One of the things my experience has taught me is that riding means different things to different people. As a teacher it is important not to lose sight of that.”

The camp is noted as very popular and described as filling up fast, and early sign-up allows campers to be grouped by age and level. No previous riding experience is necessary. Registration is available online, by mail, or in person. In addition to camp, Mark West Stables offers lessons, training for both horses and riders, day camp, leases, and sales. The stables are located 5 minutes from Santa Rosa's Rincon Valley and are easily accessible from downtown Santa Rosa, Windsor, and both the Napa and Sonoma valleys.
