About

Camp Adventurewood is an outdoor-adventure themed summer day camp where campers take part in activities such as archery, canoeing, horse-drawn wagon rides, panning for gold, capture the flag, wild animal encounters, water-balloon battles, sports, hiking, and slingshot use. The program also includes treasure hunt excavations and a month-long treasure hunt extravaganza.

• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Six-week 2026 session from June 15 to July 24, with enrollment options by day, M/W/F, or Tu/Th

Camp Adventurewood was established in 1947. Camp Adventurewood is comprised of 100% outdoor “open air” activities and limits the number of admitted campers. Children are placed into groups of about a dozen campers with two counselors assigned to each group, resulting in a 6:1 camper-to-counselor ratio. The camp maintains full compliance with the newly adopted L.A. County Children's Camp Safety Ordinance and states a strong commitment to the utmost safety standards in every aspect of the camp. Camp vans are brand-new, seat-belt-equipped, and child booster seats are permitted for campers under the age of eight. Camp Adventurewood offers door-to-door van pick-ups in 20 cities throughout the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles areas, and families in neighboring cities may arrange alternate pick-up and drop-off locations.

Camp Adventurewood states that it provides boys and girls with a safe and high-quality summer camp experience with interactive and imaginative elements unlike anything offered by other summer camps in the Los Angeles area. Its mission describes an outdoor-adventure themed summer day camp for children ages 4–13 that creates a community that nurtures fun, individual and team-based growth, and imagination and creativity, in a positive and diverse environment, and allows children to experience the rural outdoors in an inclusive, adventure-inspired environment without a prolonged absence from home.

Senior counselors are hired on the basis of ideals, college records, maturity, knowledge, driving records, and overall experience working with children, while junior counselors are hired on the basis of leadership, character, attentiveness, and dependability. Each van driver must go through extensive training and earn a certified Class C Commercial Driver’s License from the DMV, and employee background checks and CPR certification are managed. Michael Cummings is the Owner and Executive Director, also referred to as camp manager and the camp's owner. He first joined Camp Adventurewood as a camper in the summer of 2003, became a Junior Counselor in 2013, a Senior Counselor in 2017, a Camp Manager in 2019, was promoted to Executive Director in August 2021, and assumed ownership after the conclusion of the 2023 summer session as the sixth owner in the camp’s 79-year history.

Unless specified otherwise, campers bring their own lunches, and the camp provides chilled water during lunchtime and throughout the day. Campers are expected to wear official Camp Adventurewood shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes, and to bring a backpack containing a towel and water bottle. Official Camp Adventurewood wristbands are provided to each child by their counselors each morning, and the camp notes comprehensive food allergy management.
