About
Summer Programs at Theatre Arts School of San Diego include private training in acting and musical theatre, small group workshops, and classes and camps. Students can take part in college coaching, writing, and a conservatory training program, as well as workshops with leading theatre professionals. The program also features annual student recitals and showcases, an ongoing Eco-Theatre project called “Sloth Stories and Monkey Tales,” the “Outside the Box Short Play Festival,” and participation in the San Diego International Youth Arts Festival.
Theatre Arts School of San Diego was founded in 2012 and has produced and developed multiple projects and programs since opening in late 2012. The mission of Theatre Arts School of San Diego is to teach the cornerstones of theatrical technique and training in a non-competitive environment, with a focus on both the process of artistic learning and the final product. The organization states that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, learning style, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, and that it is committed to an inclusive and welcoming environment and a SAFE and SUPPORTIVE environment for students, families, teaching artists, and audiences.
Summer Programs are led by founder and director Courtney Corey, who is also Head Instructor, Director, and Playwright in Residence. Well-qualified guest instructors have performance and creative credits from Broadway, Off-Broadway, and respected regional theatres across the country. Courtney Corey has worked in the original Los Angeles and Chicago companies of WICKED, in the 1st and 2nd National Broadway tours of RENT, and onstage at La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, and San Diego Repertory Theatre, and has taught privately and at universities and high schools throughout San Diego County for almost two decades.
