About

Ladybug Music offers music-making classes where children sing, dance, and learn together through singing, rhythm play, movement, imaginative activities, and hands-on instrument play. Ladybug Music was founded in Los Angeles in 2009 by Patricia Margarita Maertens, who began teaching early childhood music in 2004. The program offers award-winning baby, toddler, and preschool music classes and uses a research-based curriculum with original and traditional songs performed by Grammy Award-winning musicians. Its music has been loved and recommended by the American Library Association and Parents Choice Awards and has been voted Best Music Class for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers by LA Magazine, Nickelodeon, Parent’s Pick, and RedTri.

The program’s mission states that it blends singing, rhythm play, movement, and imaginative activities to create a warm, pressure-free space where children learn through joy, connection, and high-quality music. Classes are mixed-age, so babies, toddlers, and preschoolers participate together and learn at their own pace. Membership includes access to the Ladybug Music app, which provides the original class music for streaming or download and allows families to create playlists, and the membership is described as a simple, flexible monthly option with make-ups included while enrolled.

Founder Patricia Margarita Maertens studied at the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles and has a two-decade professional career as a singer, songwriter, and producer with original music featured in film and television. Other teachers include Beth Tait, who studied voice performance at Ithaca College and worked as a singer and actor in New York City; Michelle Carter, a classically trained Canadian singer, composer, and sound designer with decades of experience teaching voice, piano, and songwriting and an active career in film and TV sound; and Erin Kron, a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, writer, and teacher who is an independent folk singer-songwriter and guitarist and a classically trained violinist.

Families and caretakers attend from Studio City, North Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Toluca Lake, Valley Village, Burbank, and nearby Los Angeles neighborhoods. Testimonials from parents describe babies and toddlers who sing along, dance, and participate in class activities, and several parents mention that they listen to the Ladybug Music songs at home, in the car, and through the Ladybug Music app.
