About

KravZone Kids & Teens Programs offers martial arts classes that include Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), kickboxing, MMA, Kids Krav, Kids Kravfit, Parents and Child Krav, and Krav Teens. The program also includes strength and conditioning classes, a no-gi grappling class, the KravFit program, and other fitness classes. The kids and teen programs are specifically designed using both Karate and Krav Maga styles and theories, and for ages 5–12 they combine Karate, grappling, and Krav Maga.

• Ages: 5–17 years old

The stated goal of KravZone Kids & Teens Programs is children’s self-development through martial arts. The kids program is divided into several age groups (5–6, 7–8, 9–12, and teens) so that students train with others their own age, and each age group is taught different levels of drills according to age. All games and drills have a technical purpose and contribute to martial arts skills, and the program focuses less on formalities, ceremonies, and “show.” The program is described as fun and non-competitive, with training that teaches basic defensive skills and is not intended for or taught under a competitive environment. The program uses appropriate teaching methods defined by sports education best practices standards, prioritizes skill over strength, and focuses on mastering technique and control within a friendly environment.

KravZone notes that it has trained over 1,000 kids since opening and has over 28 years of teaching experience. The dojo is described as modern with deep martial arts roots and includes workout and weight training areas. Membership is described as all-inclusive with no hidden costs, with no extra or hidden premium fees for belts and degrees, and no charge for belt tests; kids receive their degrees when they deserve them. KravZone offers Krav Maga involving all fighting ranges, along with BJJ NoGi classes and kickboxing, and fitness classes aimed at enhancing fighting capabilities through improved mobility and strength and focusing on injury prevention. The community is described as having a spirit where everyone supports and learns from each other, and the program has an average parent rating of 4.9 stars.

The leadership team includes Master Shlomi Katz (Owner & Head Instructor, Program Director), Beth Mumford (Instructor), and Travis Latham (KravZone Black Belt & Certified Instructor, director of physical fitness at KravZone). Master Shlomi Katz has been training in martial arts for almost 40 years and teaching youth and adults, civilians and soldiers, for over 25 years, and he served as a fighter in special forces and as the head of Krav Maga and counter-terror training at the Counter Terror School (CTU). He is the former head of Krav Maga at the Counter Terror School (CTU), the representative and chief instructor of Wingate Krav Maga in the United States, holds a master degree (black belt Dan 7) in Meijin Kai, and a Black Belt Dan 6 in Krav Maga. Beth holds a Black Belt in Krav Maga and completed KravZone’s Instructor Training Course in 2016. Travis is a KravZone black belt and Krav Maga certified instructor, serves as director of physical fitness at KravZone, and leads the KravFit program; he has over 10 years of experience as a certified personal trainer and is a certified CrossFit trainer, NASM personal trainer, corrective exercise specialist, and performance enhancement specialist, and in 2014 he was a CrossFit competitor ranked in the top 10% worldwide.

KravZone provides corporate workshops under the description “Boost Teamwork and Communication with Self-Defense Training For Your Company!” and lists associations with companies including Big Panda, Intel, Google, Nova, Juniper Network, Survey Monkey, Space IQ, Uhana, JFrog, Applied Materials, and Accenture. One parent review notes “Great instructors, friendly people, teen and kid classes. Plus they offer strength and conditioning classes.” Another review highlights the no-gi grappling class and describes the gym as “super nice” with a “really professional” Krav coach, and mentions specific grappling days on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Additional reviews describe instructors as efficient, professional, and friendly, mention that the first class is free, and refer to the dojo as a “gem.” One reviewer notes that the gym does not offer boxing, kickboxing, or MMA tournaments but is ready to help students find one, and also comments on learning Krav for self-defense purposes. Other reviews describe the classes as useful for “real defense,” compare Krav to taekwondo, and mention that two main instructors, Shlomi and Tomer, both served in the IDF.
