In the 30 years since KidZone opened in 1992, its audience has grown to 30,000 visits annually, a growth of 500%, and financial support has grown 300%. The museum’s history began in 1992, when a grassroots coalition of parents, agencies, and educators opened the nonprofit Sierra Nevada Children’s Museum (doing business as KidZone Museum) in the rural and isolated region of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The KidZone Museum strives to reach children and families in the region through expanded community partnerships with social service and education organizations, hiring staff who can welcome families who speak Spanish and English, and offering a free bus service to reach families living in poverty. The organization states that these connections establish the emotional, physical, and intellectual foundation for every child to enter school ready to learn, and that the growth in attendance and support requires a bigger space for a bigger, brighter future for children. The leadership team includes Renee Deinken. Families traveling with children aged 3 and under are reminded to bring their own car seats.
