Sagehen Creek Field Station Education Programs include K–12 field trips and outdoor classrooms, high school science and leadership programs, and public education programs and citizen science initiatives. The program also offers UC and CSU undergraduate field courses, graduate student workshops and thesis research, and professional training for teachers, land managers, and scientists. Specific offerings include Adventure-Risk-Challenge (ARC), Sagehen Outdoor Education Program (SOEP), Bio Boot Camp and Bio Boot Camp 2.0, California Ecology & Conservation, the California Naturalist Program, the River & Stream Restoration Course, the Natural History Field Quarter (UCSC), and a citizen science workshop.

Sagehen Creek Field Station Education Programs are part of the UC Natural Reserve System and support field-based learning experiences that emphasize experiential, place-based learning. The programs follow a mission that includes fostering ecological literacy, critical thinking, and a connection to the Sierra Nevada landscape, and they support the UC Natural Reserve System’s mission to provide university-level instruction at natural reserves throughout California. Sagehen Creek Field Station was established in 1951 and is described as a living laboratory dedicated to advancing research, education, and stewardship in the Sierra Nevada, with a focus on both fundamental and applied research related to natural and managed ecosystems. The station is a member of UC Nature, the Organization of Biological Field Stations, and is a founding member of the Global Network of Mountain Observatories. Sagehen partners with schools, universities, and nonprofits, and serves as the hub of the broader Central Sierra Field Research Stations network, which also includes the Central Sierra Snow Lab, Chickering American River Reserve, Onion Creek Experimental Forest, and North Fork Association Lands.
