About
Children's Music Academy Classes include piano and keyboard, singing, and music theory such as harmony, melody, rhythm, note reading, key signatures, time signatures, and scales. Children also do ear training, composition, ensemble playing, and explore various music genres and styles. Classes include work with guitar, recorder, and percussion instruments.
• Ages: 3–12 years old
Children's Music Academy Classes follow a curriculum that is multi-dimensional and not a single-focused private piano, voice, or guitar lesson, and courses are designed for beginner musicians. Classes take place in a small-group setting that is described as fun and supportive and that naturally draws children into the learning activities. A parent or other adult, such as a grandparent, participates in class with the child. Courses are offered for beginners ages 3 to 12 years old, and there is also a Master's Course just for Children’s Music Academy graduates. The curriculum is predicated on research that shows children should begin their music training early, preferably in their preschool or kindergarten years.
Children’s Music Academy has been delivering music education for more than 30 years and opened its first studio in Littleton, Colorado in the mid 1980s. The organization includes more than 2,500 students, 65 teachers, and 25 studios throughout the United States, 18 of which are franchises. Jan Cross is identified as a Children’s Music Academy Co-Founder and Author. The stated mission is to teach music to young children in a fun, positive, affirming, and creative environment, with an emphasis on kids enjoying music. The program notes involvement in Community Partnerships.
One testimonial states, “We chose CMA because of their top quality instructors and their multi-dimensional approach to music. It’s so much more than piano lessons!” Another testimonial from a mother of five Children’s Music Academy graduates describes driving two hours to attend for over 11 years, having multiple children in classes at the same time, and mentions that her children have gone on to play piano, guitar, bass, drums, and fiddle, with one planning to take the CMA Master’s program, and describes the teachers as loving and caring.
