• Schedule: Camp day runs from 9 AM to 4 PM, with late drop-offs and early pickups welcome.

GrowFit Day Camps was founded in 2010 by Russ Nuffer and uses a proprietary K–8 physical education curriculum that started as a program focused on the whole child and social and emotional learning. Each day, site managers organize a mix of nine different 30-minute sports and games, and campers are grouped by age with a dedicated counselor. The daily rhythm includes popsicle breaks, snack time, and lunch, and full credit is offered up until the day before camp begins if a child is unable to attend. GrowFit Day Camps operates at five Bay Area locations: Redwood City, San Ramon, San Jose, Walnut Creek, and Berkeley.

The staff includes child development experts, sporty college students, committed teachers, and other staff who work with kids, all of whom complete thorough background checks. Managers and coaches have educational backgrounds in child development or extensive experience working with youth and coaching, complete the highest level background checks, and receive online and in-person emergency response training. Managers are CPR, First Aid, and AED certified, concussion certified through the CDC, trained in bully prevention through the National Alliance for Youth Sports, food handling certified, and epi-pen administration certified, and they complete a three-hour online training with quizzes plus comprehensive in-person training. Coaches are concussion certified through the CDC, trained in bully prevention through the National Alliance for Youth Sports, epi-pen administration certified, and complete the same three-hour online training with quizzes and comprehensive in-person training. Staff members receive extensive training in anti-bullying and team-building, and the program lists concussion certification and bully prevention training as formal credentials.

Parent feedback includes comments that campers “had a great time at camp” with “lots of rave reviews,” and that children “have fun every time and always tell me how nice the people are there.” Parents describe counselors as “warm, encouraging, and truly cared about the kids,” and note that “these guys kept the kids busy throughout the day with different levels of activities for every ability.” Several parents report that their children came home “exhausted and talking non stop about what they did that day,” and that kids “love the camp,” “enjoy playing outside,” and “hug their teacher” at drop-off. One parent highlights the ability to sign up by the day, by the week, or even day-of as “so convenient,” and others mention that their children “want to come back and do it again soon” and “always came home with a tired but happy smile.”
