Study Smart Tutors

Study Smart Tutors offers student workshops, family workshops, staff training, tutoring, and free college prep classes. The program also provides test prep workshops, career readiness workshops, SEL workshops, life and leadership workshops, STEM workshops, tutor and mentor training, and test prep training. In addition, Study Smart Tutors creates media such as podcasts and fully animated videos as part of its work with students and families.

Study Smart Tutors states that its mission is to collaborate with partners to promote educational equity, access, and success by providing a diverse range of tools for students, families, and educators, with a focus on closing opportunity gaps and offering culturally responsive academic support. The program works with schools and college access programs to create engaging multimedia experiences and serves more than 150 TRiO partners, more than 25 GEAR UP partners, more than 250 school and district partners, and more than 35 nonprofit partners. Study Smart Tutors offers workshops for families in English and Spanish, training for staff to create virtual programming and support students’ academic and critical thinking skills online, and specialized grant-writing and program evaluation services for TRIO and GEAR UP programs. The program notes that in-person workshops are not the only way families can participate, and that video content and social media are also used to share information about college and career readiness. It also states that programming is custom-built to fit the specific needs, schedules, and budgets of each school, library, or college access program, and that participants in its sessions develop their own implementation plans for family programming by learning strategies to use staff and technology.
