About
Study Smart Tutors offers tutoring in reading, writing, and math, along with test prep workshops and STEM workshops. The program also provides student workshops to prepare students for college entrance exams, careers, and life outside the classroom, as well as SEL, life and leadership, and career readiness workshops. Study Smart Tutors also offers family workshops in English and Spanish, tutor/mentor and test prep training, staff training for virtual tutoring and advising, consulting, and media production such as podcasts and fully animated videos.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Tutoring sessions are held for 60 minutes, up to four days per week, as well as on Saturdays.
• Price: Each family is entitled to $1,000 worth of tutoring services per child that attends a Clayton County Public School. The Tutoring Program is free to parents and students.
Tutoring is provided in small groups, with 4–6 students per tutor, and sessions are aligned to Clayton County Public School standards in reading, writing, and math. Tutoring sessions are available either in-person or virtually, and students may complete a pre- and post-test to determine tutoring needs during each tutoring block. Student support includes cultural competency, mentorship and active listening, social emotional learning, and metacognition and checks for understanding. Programming is custom-built to fit each school, library, and college access program’s unique needs, schedules, and budgets, and Study Smart Tutors also provides free college prep classes.
Tutor requirements include a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, passing Study Smart Tutors’ mirror CBEST exam, experience tutoring and/or teaching, demonstrated subject expertise, LiveScan clearance, and completion of a rigorous professional development course with the Study Smart Tutors team. The leadership team includes Ayo Strange, Associate Director of Partnerships, and Cyle Feingold, Project Director. Study Smart Tutors collaborates with partners to promote educational equity, access, and success by providing a diverse range of tools for students, families, and educators, with a mission grounded in closing opportunity gaps and empowering communities through high-quality, culturally responsive academic support.
Study Smart Tutors is partnering with Clayton County Public Schools to offer free tutoring to students in grades K–12, and Clayton County Public Schools is using ESSER III funds to provide tutoring for students who have been impacted during the pandemic. Study Smart Tutors serves more than 150 TRiO partners, more than 25 GEAR UP partners, more than 250 schools and district partners, and more than 35 non-profit partners, and works with schools and college access programs to create multimedia experiences. Study Smart Tutors has earned ESSA Tier IV Validation and an EduEvidence Bronze Efficacy Badge for high-dosage tutoring, and has dual research recognition for this tutoring model.
