META BJJ Martial Arts Programs is led by head instructor Seth Quiring. The head instructor holds the rank of 1st-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is one of the few Canadian IBJJF-certified referees, became a referee in 2014 with the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association (OJA), has officiated thousands of matches, and helped manage Action Reaction MMA, described as Canada’s largest BJJ organization. The school describes itself as the “Best Martial Arts School in Windsor” and states that it transforms kids into leaders full of discipline and focus, helps adults get fit and safe fast, offers fun classes, an amazing community, and action-packed martial arts, and that Windsor members see results fast and will see the difference in as little as 1 week. School programs include Preschool Jiu-Jitsu (Ages 3–5), Kids Jiu-Jitsu (Ages 6–12), Adult Jiu-Jitsu (Ages 13+), Ladies Only Jiu-Jitsu (Ages 13+), Project X Guard (Ages 6–15), private and semi-private lessons, and birthday parties, and META BJJ is dedicated to creating a training experience that is both challenging and rewarding for every student. Project X Guard is aimed at helping at-risk youth build confidence, discipline, and resilience through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The birthday parties service states that the gym takes care of entertaining and engaging kids while parents relax. META BJJ provides martial arts classes to the Windsor, Tecumseh, Essex, Lasalle, and Amherstburg communities. One reviewer described their experience as “An amazing experience.”
For Gi classes, required gear includes a BJJ Gi, a belt matching the student’s rank, a rash guard, and a mouthguard is recommended. For No-Gi classes, required gear includes a rash guard (short or long sleeve), spats or athletic shorts that are pocketless for safety, and a mouthguard is recommended. A BJJ Gi is mandatory for Gi classes, and it can be any brand or a Flawless Kimonos Gi. For No-Gi classes, a rash guard and spats or leggings are mandatory, spats must have shorts over top, and shorts must have no pockets. All training gear must be clean and free from rips, tears, holes, or stains, and students are instructed not to wear shorts with pockets or zippers during No-Gi training and not to hang or leave gear in the bathroom. Hygiene expectations for all classes include clean training clothes each session, trimmed nails, flip-flops for off the mats, and a towel and personal hygiene products. The program’s mission statement says it is dedicated to changing the lives of people one person at a time through martial arts, education, and coaching, providing a safe, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere for students and family members, creating an environment for individuals to achieve, develop, and succeed in their personal goals, and strongly believing that martial arts can be for everyone regardless of age, gender, or experience levels, with a realistic and practical approach that it states will enable every member to achieve greatness and live their best life.
