About
Explorer Camp Wash Park includes outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and biking, along with yoga, art, and music. For half of each day, campers take part in activities like kayaking, biking, hiking, or canoeing, and for the other half they do more introspective activities such as storytime yoga, art, and music. Hikes include teaching about flora and fauna and Leave-No-Trace principles, and every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, how to prevent them, and how to respond if something goes wrong.

Explorer Camp Wash Park is part of Avid4 Adventure’s one-week Explorer summer camps for 5 and 6 year olds entering Kindergarten or 1st Grade, with a camper to staff ratio of 5:1. Parents and campers meet staff at a consistent location daily, Avid4 Adventure transports campers to recreation areas for the activity, and groups return to the facility for afternoon pick up. Avid4 Adventure provides transportation to and from recreation areas, organizes big adventures in beautiful recreation areas, and gives campers access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids. The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure at every camp, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, increased confidence for children, and a customer experience that exceeds parents’ expectations, and if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free (“your next Avid4 Adventure camp is on us”). Campers must be 5 by the start of camp, and families are strongly encouraged to send campers with their own bike for biking day, with training wheels removed prior to camp.
Instructors are described as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring almost as much as they love working with kids, are all 18 and older, and have serious safety and skills training. Avid4 Adventure states that it hires the most committed, experienced instructors around, recruits and trains high-class outdoor educators, and reports that Avid4 Instructors are the number one point of positive feedback from parents of campers. At the helm of Avid4 Adventure is founder David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry.
Avid4 Adventure’s mission states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors, that kids at Avid4 Adventure build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, and that it offers day camps and extended overnight options to inspire young explorers. The mission also states that Avid4 Adventure was born out of a desire to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet. Programs are described as evolving as campers grow from age 3 through 17, and summer camps are described as highly acclaimed. Avid4 Adventure is committed to public transparency and accountability as a Certified B Corp and states that it is 100% committed to paying educators a fair wage.
Explorer Camp Wash Park operates under Avid4 Adventure, which is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Discounts include a multi-session/sibling discount that allows families to mix and match sessions for $25 off per session after the first, a referral program where families can give friends $50 off their first camp and receive a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp when the friend makes a purchase, and a service discount of $65 off for qualifying professions.
Parent testimonials describe Avid4 Adventure as a camp where one child learned to ride a bike without training wheels after previously using training wheels and biking only occasionally, and where stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking became that child’s favorite activities. Another parent reports that their child wanted them to come see everything learned and done each day and describes Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, calling it a well-run program where kids learn new outdoor skills. A third parent reports that their kids had “the best time” at camp, still talked about it more than a month later, could not wait to return the next year, and were active every day learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
