About

Girls Rock Climbing Camp – Wash Park focuses on climbing, knot tying, belaying, rappelling, and bouldering practice. Campers also work with climbing equipment such as carabiners, stoppers, camalots, and belay devices as they practice equipment setup and traditional gear placement.

• Ages: 9–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday
• Price: One Week Price $740; Early Drop Off - Starting at 8 AM $35; After Care - Pick up 3-5:30PM $105

The program runs in one-week sessions June 8–12 and July 20–24, with camp hours from 9 AM to 3 PM and extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Campers climb at local crags on a variety of routes and rock types, practice bouldering, and learn climbing safety and ethics, climbing commands, proper spotting, hazard identification, and footwork and body positioning techniques. In this girls-only environment, campers focus on a personal development theme each day, and multiple sessions are described as resulting in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment and environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others and make new friends. The camp provides transportation to and from recreation areas and access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, and no prerequisite skills or experience are needed.

Instructors are described as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring almost as much as they love working with kids, are all 18 and older, and have serious safety and skills training. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. The organization states, “We believe in the transformative power of the outdoors.” It is accredited by the American Camp Association, named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and is a Certified B Corp, and the program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which states that if promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. Programs from this organization evolve as campers grow, from age 3 through 17, and Avid4 organizes big adventures in recreation areas described as beautiful.

One testimonial from September 2023 describes a camper who learned to ride a bike without training wheels during camp and later enjoyed stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking, and the parent states that Avid taught their child a lot. Another testimonial from September 2023 describes Avid’s staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children, and calls it a well-run program where kids learn new outdoor skills. A third testimonial from September 2023 states that the children “had THE BEST time at this camp,” still talked about it over a month later, could not wait to return the next year, and were active every day learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
